What I’ve Been Reading

“Alchemy: The Dark Art and Curious Science of Creating Magic in Brands, Business, and Life” by Rory Sutherland offers a unique perspective on problem-solving and decision-making in business. Aimed at entrepreneurs, the book challenges conventional logic and champions a creative, often counterintuitive approach to business strategy.

Sutherland, a veteran advertising mogul, argues that logical solutions are not always the most effective. He emphasises the power of psychological insights and emotional appeals in influencing consumer behaviour. The book is filled with intriguing anecdotes and real-life examples, illustrating how unconventional thinking can lead to remarkable outcomes in marketing and branding. Sutherland advocates for ‘alchemy’ – the ability to identify and capitalise on the irrational aspects of human nature to create value and stand out in the marketplace.

This book is a great read for entrepreneurs seeking to think outside the box, harness the power of creativity, and drive their businesses in innovative and successful directions.

What I’ve Been Watching

“Sly,” a documentary about Sylvester Stallone, provides an in-depth look at his remarkable journey to stardom, particularly emphasising his dedication and self-belief in the creation of the film “Rocky.” The documentary showcases how Stallone, then a relatively unknown actor, wrote the script for “Rocky,” drawing from his personal experiences and struggles. His profound connection with the character of Rocky Balboa, an underdog boxer, resonated deeply with his own life’s challenges. Stallone faced significant obstacles in selling the script, as producers were interested in the story but reluctant to cast him as the lead. His unwavering determination is highlighted as he refused multiple lucrative offers for the screenplay, insisting on playing the lead role himself. Stallone’s persistence and faith in his vision eventually paid off, leading to the making of “Rocky,” which became a cinematic sensation and defined his career.

This documentary illustrates Stallone’s journey as a testament to resilience and the power of sticking to one’s convictions. When he strayed from his unique ability of playing the action hero, he struggled, but when he focused on his unique abilities, he created 3 phenomenally successfully movie franchises.

TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting

“The hardest part of my cancer experience began once the cancer was gone,” says author Suleika Jaouad in her talk What almost dying taught me about living. In this fierce, funny, wisdom-packed talk, she challenges us to think beyond the divide between “sick” and “well,” asking: How do you begin again and find meaning after life is interrupted?

App I’ve Found Useful

As someone with dyslexia, the Voice Dream Reader app has been a game-changer for me. Listening, rather than reading, makes absorbing information much easier, and this app caters perfectly to that need. A significant advantage is the app’s ability to read virtually anything. Whether it’s articles, PDFs, eBooks, or even audiobooks, I can upload them instantly. Its camera scanning feature is particularly helpful for quickly converting printed text into audio. The browser extension for adding content directly from web pages is also a convenient tool. Moreover, the fact that Voice Dream operates offline is incredibly beneficial. It ensures fast load times and keeps my data private. This feature is especially useful when I’m traveling or in areas without internet access. For me, as a dyslexic individual, this app not only enhances my reading experience but also boosts my confidence in accessing and processing written information.

Quotes of the Week

“It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”

“I believe any success in life is made by going into an area with a blind, furious optimism.”

“I am not the richest, smartest, or most talented person in the world, but I succeed because I keep going and going and going.”

–       Sylvester Stallone

Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe”. It is said that those people that write down their goals go on to achieve so much more in life than those that do not, because they take time to sharpen the axe.

Creating an incredible life starts with creating incredible goals, and then delivering on them. After all, how do you know if you’ve achieved a life of success if you don’t know what you were aiming for, or what is important. At the end of each year, I set aside a day to review how I did on my previous year’s goals, and most importantly set amazing goals and a system to achieve them for the year ahead. One of the ways I do this is using a tool called The Limitless Life Kick Start, which can also help you see into the future to determine the most important goals to set and achieve.

If you’d like me to walk you through my end of year goal setting process, I can do it for you virtually at our new Virtual Workshop The Limitless Life Workshop. Its free, available online, and there are several options when you complete it but make sure you put aside 3 hours to go through it in detail; by the end you’ll have better clarity about the year ahead than you’ve ever had before, I promise.

Once you have inputted your details here the tool will be available to download on the next screen. It may take up to 20 seconds.
