TRIBEathlon Podcast
Episode 27: I recently read ‘The lost art of Running’ by Shane Benzie and it is one of the best running books I’ve ever read. Not surprising really, as this it’s written by the running coach of Damian Hall and Nicky Spinks, to name a couple.
The combination of technique and stories from runners around the world makes for compelling and productive reading. So, I wanted to get Shane onto the TRIBEathlon podcast to learn more about how we can all improve our running technique and performance, and start to run more like the Kenyans!
Podcast I Recommend
Occasionally, it’s nice to be on the other side of the mic, so it was fantastic to be asked by sports nutrition brand, 33Fuel, to be featured on their podcast in an episode called ‘Business Lessons from Sports Performance’. We often hear about what lessons the business world can take from sport, but if you want to know what I’ve taken form my business life to help me become an Ironman, you can find it here.
What I’ve Been Reading
Another book recommended to me by coach, Fi Carter, in a conversation we had after I interviewed her, was ‘Innercise: The New Science to Unlock Your Brain’s Hidden Power’ by John Assaraf – the author of a previous recommendation of mine called ‘The Answer’ which was featured in an earlier edition of the Efficient Wealth Update.
Innercise isn’t a book about setting goals, but about how to ensure you complete them. It is full of practical exercises that you can use to ensure your subconscious mind is tuned into what is important to you. A great book and well worth reading if you want to ensure you do hit your goals.
What I’ve Been Watching
For some reason, in Lockdown part 3 I have been embracing sci-fi films; perhaps because it feels like I’ve spent a year permanently inside Zoom meetings!
Having ticked off The Matrix and Ready Player One, this week whilst on the turbo trainer I watched Ex Machina; which is written and directed by Alex Garland, the author of the cult travelling book The Beach. It is an incredibly thought-provoking film, raising so many of the issues that relate to Artificial Intelligence (AI). If you are interested in AI, I would definitely recommend you take a look; it is an entertaining education.
TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting
Hailed as the greatest pickpocket in the world, Apollo Robbins studies the quirks of human behaviour as he steals your watch. In a hilarious demonstration entitled ‘The Art of Misdirection’, Robbins samples the buffet of the TEDGlobal 2013 audience, showing how the flaws in our perception make it possible to swipe a wallet and leave it on its owner’s shoulder while they remain clueless.
Quote of the Week

Finance Theme I’ve Been Considering
Yesterday I was chatting to a client that wants to make some gifts to their children, as well as place some money into trust for the grandchildren as it is an extremely tax efficient way to pay for their school fees. Fortunately, he came to us before he did either, because had he done them the wrong way around, he would have been subjecting his future generations to higher levels of tax than were necessary.
There are pros and cons to the order in which you gift assets directly or into trust, so before you start, make sure you seek advice so that you are aware of them.
