This week’s Friday Footnotes will be short and sweet as I am away on holiday in Cornwall with the family. I hope you find something useful here.

Episode 7: At one stage, Matt Bottrill held the UK record for cycling 10, 20 & 50 miles, he won over 60 National medals and represented Great Britain Cycling team on over 30 occasions. Now, he coaches some of the top professional Ironman athletes like Tim Don, and in this podcast, I got the opportunity to drill down on how he makes such marked improvements in his athletes, particularly in their cycling.
What I’ve Been Watching
I may be someone that loves cycling, but I’ve never really found the time to watch much of Le Tour – a combination of not understanding so much of what goes on and the time required to really see what happens has meant I’ve never got into it. As a result, I loved the opportunity to learn more, and see probably be best tour of the last 30 years evolve over the space of 1 hour in ‘Geraint Thomas: The Road Will Decide’ on iPlayer. A world first documentary film, boasting unparalleled access to defending champion Welshman, Geraint Thomas, at the planet’s toughest endurance race, the film captures Geraint in a new way, never before seen by audiences.
What I’ve Been Eating
I first discovered biltong in South Africa when first travelling there in 1999. The perfect accompaniment to a cold beer, I’ve since found a lot of it to be too chewy or too heavy. So when I recently discovered Ember’s range of British Biltong, I was pleasantly surprised because it is so much lighter and more flavoursome than most. I particularly like their chilli rub and their garlic and rosemary flavours. If you use the discount code ‘PROTEIN25’ you can treat yourself to 25% off.

Finance Theme I’ve Been Considering
Warren Buffet’s quote is well used, but when it comes to investing, the man is rarely wrong.
I wonder how many people’s investment strategies were found wanting in the COVID crash? At Efficient Portfolio we want to help people better understand how robust their planning was and is for the future, that is why we’ll soon be launching a new ‘Our Second Opinion’ service.
If you, or someone you know has a financial adviser (that isn’t us), or they manage their money themselves, why not ask us for a free second opinion assessment on the plan? For no charge, we’ll tell you what’s good, and what’s not so good, and try and help you resolve the latter. Just email hello@efficientportfolio.co.uk to find out more.
