How to Build Strategic Partnerships That Refer Your Ideal Clients
A free recorded training for professional service business owners who want other trusted firms introducing the right clients to them, without spending more on marketing or more of their own time.
Why do so many referral partnerships promise the earth and deliver nothing?
You've probably had the conversation. Over coffee or lunch with an accountant, solicitor or another firm that serves the same kind of clients you do, everyone agrees it's a brilliant idea. You'll introduce each other to your clients. You both leave enthusiastic. And then, nothing. They go back to their desk, get swept up in their own client work, and your name never comes up again.
The cost of radio silence
Every partnership that fizzles out is a stream of ideal clients that never reaches you. Meanwhile, you carry on paying for marketing, attending networking events and chasing every new client yourself, when there are firms out there already trusted by exactly the people you want to help. And where partnerships do get going, they often collapse quietly: the introductions only flow one way, nobody talked about what was in it for each side, and one partner gets tired of giving without getting anything back.
Your clients pay the price too. When their accountant, solicitor and adviser each give conflicting advice, the client is left stuck in the middle, unsure which way to turn, and often nothing gets done at all.
What if other firms were actively marketing your business for you?
When Charlie Reading was running Efficient Portfolio, and was still its only financial adviser, a single firm of accountants introduced 30 new clients to the business in just 18 months. That partnership generated almost £300,000 in fees for Efficient Portfolio, £72,000 in fee share for the accountants, eight referrals back in the other direction, and more accountancy work for the firm from the clients they'd introduced. The clients got a joined-up plan from advisers who worked together, rather than conflicting advice from advisers who didn't.
That approach, which Charlie called the Trusted Team approach, is where The Trusted Team takes its name. Charlie credits much of the value he achieved when he sold Efficient Portfolio to around ten quality partnerships. In this free recorded training, he shares the seven-step Partnership Playbook he developed through years of trial and error with hundreds of accountants and solicitors: the system that makes partners want to introduce clients, remember to do it, and keep doing it.

- How to articulate what you do so partners can explain it for you - why a clear partnership presentation and a simple, memorable client journey make it far easier for partners to introduce you.

Frequently Asked Questions
View All FAQsWhat makes a good strategic partner?

A strategic partner serves the same ideal clients as you without being in competition with you, has credibility with your audience, and shares your values. Both your clients and theirs should benefit from the relationship.
With AI becoming so powerful, do partnerships still matter?

More than ever. AI makes information abundant, but trust remains scarce, and partnerships are built on borrowed trust. The training shows how to use AI to scale your partnership activity, not replace the relationships themselves.
Should I have lots of partners or a few strong ones?

Quality beats quantity. Five highly engaged partners will outperform 50 casual contacts, and once you've built a system that works with one partner, you can repeat it with others.
Do I have to pay partners for introductions?

Not necessarily. Some partners prefer a fee share, others would rather receive nothing. The training covers how to have that conversation at the outset, and other ways to reward partners when introductions mostly flow in one direction.
Is this only relevant to financial services?

No. While many of Charlie's examples come from financial planning, the same approach works for accountants, solicitors, consultants, coaches and other professional service businesses.
Is this training free?

Yes. This session is available to watch as a free recording, along with the Partnership Playbook tool used in the session.
