What I’ve Been Reading
“Think Like a Monk” by Jay Shetty is a transformative book that distils the wisdom Shetty learned during his years as a monk into practical advice for everyday living.
Shetty, who spent three years living as a Vedic monk, guides readers on a journey to find inner peace, purpose, and joy, much like he did. The book is structured around key principles derived from monk teachings: letting go of negativity, cultivating stillness, finding purpose, and understanding the true self. Shetty emphasises the importance of mindfulness, meditation, and self-discipline, teaching readers how to apply these ancient practices to modern life. He explores themes like conquering fear and managing ego, and he offers insights into developing more meaningful relationships and a deeper understanding of oneself.
“Think Like a Monk” is not just a book; it’s a guide to reshaping one’s mindset and embracing a life filled with peace, clarity, and purpose. Shetty’s engaging storytelling, combined with practical exercises, makes this book a valuable resource for anyone seeking to navigate life’s challenges with a monk’s calm, focused, and purposeful approach.
What I’ve Been Watching
“Stutz” is a documentary that delves into the life and therapeutic approach of Dr. Phil Stutz, a renowned psychiatrist. Throughout the film, Stutz shares his unique tools and methodologies that he developed to help his patients navigate mental health challenges. These tools, central to the documentary, are designed to be practical, accessible, and easy to understand, offering viewers a glimpse into Stutz’s innovative approach to therapy. One key tool featured is the “Life Force Pyramid,” a concept that prioritizes fundamental human needs and desires, like connection and creativity, to help individuals find balance and purpose. Another significant tool is the “Part X,” which represents the self-sabotaging part of the mind. Stutz teaches patients how to identify and manage this aspect to overcome internal conflicts. The “Active Love” technique is another pivotal tool, focusing on channelling love and compassion to heal and strengthen relationships. The documentary, through intimate conversations and illustrative animations, presents these tools not only as therapeutic techniques but also as life lessons, offering viewers practical strategies to improve their mental health and overall well-being.
AI Tool I’ve Found Useful
One of the AI tools I’ve recently found that I love is ElevenLabs, where you can turn text into audio. You can choose to use one of the many voices already uploaded, or upload your own then you can convert your written word into audio, like an audiobook. As someone who is dyslexic, the idea of reading out my own book would end in a car crash, as well as a lot of time I don’t have. Using ElevenLabs I can now create my audiobooks with my own voice, but read professionally in a fraction of the time.
