Autumn is arguably the best season to be outside. The air is cooler, the trails are quieter, and there’s something about the changing colours that invites clarity and reflection. And that clarity? It’s rocket fuel for business.
Some of my best ideas, strategic decisions and reset moments haven’t happened behind a desk – they’ve arrived mid-run, halfway up a hill or on a crisp walk with no headphones. Stepping outside often creates the headspace we just can’t force in front of a screen.
So, as we settle into the rhythm of autumn, maybe the most productive thing you can do for your business is lace up, get out, and give your brain room to breathe.
What’s the next smart move you’re working on – and could it be waiting for you outside?
Business of Endurance Podcast
This week on The Business of Endurance podcast, we’re joined by Joao Andrade, a man who went from biotech boardroom to Badwater finisher – and nearly lost his life doing it. Joao’s story is packed with resilience: from pitching to Stephen Bartlett on Dragons’ Den to collapsing with heart complications mid-race, only to come back stronger.
What I loved most is how seamlessly Joao draws parallels between building a business and surviving ultra-endurance races. Strategy, risk, listening to your body (and your gut), and knowing when to push or pull back. If you’re navigating a period of personal or professional intensity, this episode might just help you find your footing again. Listen to it here.
What I’ve Been Reading
I recently revisited this old favourite from Gladwell – and it reminded me how powerful it is to shift your perception of success. Outliers doesn’t just ask why people succeed; it shows you how everything from birth dates to cultural legacies and the 10,000-hour rule shape our journeys.
It reframes luck and talent through a more nuanced lens, one that leaves you both inspired and a little more self-forgiving. A powerful read if you’re reflecting on your own path or feeling stuck in comparison mode.
TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting
Jay Bailey doesn’t just tell you to hustle harder – he asks you to go deeper. This TED Talk, How Entrepreneurs Can Unlock Their Full Potential, reframes the idea of goal setting entirely and invites you to focus not on what you want, but who you were built to become.
In a world obsessed with metrics, this talk is a refreshing reminder that purpose trumps productivity.
What I’ve Been Watching
Whether you’re spiritual, sceptical, or somewhere in between, this discussion on The Diary Of A CEO between Greg Koukl, Alex O’Connor and Dr K will stop you in your tracks. It unpacks death anxiety, the pursuit of meaning, and why “doing what makes you happy” might be leading us astray.
Not your typical faith debate. It’s raw, intelligent, and forces you to ask the uncomfortable but necessary question: what actually gives your life direction? Whatever your belief system, there’s wisdom in watching people wrestle with the big stuff.
Quote Of The Week
“People do not decide their futures. They decide their habits, and their habits decide their futures.” – F.M. Alexander
Tech I’ve Found Useful
If you run a service-based business, this could be a quiet revolution. Thoughtly uses AI to manage both inbound and outbound calls – meaning fewer missed leads, better first impressions, and more time focused on what matters.
It’s like having a virtual receptionist that never sleeps, never forgets, and always knows what to say. In a world where response time equals reputation, tools like this are becoming non-negotiable.
The Trusted Team
This past month, we hosted a powerful in-person event: Niche to Network: Stop Chasing Clients and Start Attracting the Right Ones. If you missed it, good news – you can now watch the recording.
The key idea? Most professionals are stuck on the hamster wheel of outreach. But what if clients came to you, via trusted introductions from strategic partners who want to refer you?
In our Niche to Network Workshop, we show you how. From mapping out who already serves your ideal clients, to crafting value propositions that spark mutual interest, to building long-term referral systems – it’s all there. And best of all? No spammy DMs or awkward networking events required.
You can still watch the session here.
Lately I’ve been reflecting on one core truth: those who succeed long-term aren’t always the strongest or fastest. They’re the ones who keep showing up. Who fall, learn, adapt – and then rise again.
Whether you’re building a business, training for a race, or navigating a tougher season in life, remember that endurance is a mindset before it’s a muscle.
Thanks as always for reading. Until next time, keep showing up.
