After speaking to Chrissie Wellington on the podcast this week, I’ve come to a conclusion: there’s already going to have to be a V2.0 of The Business of Endurance. Some conversations leave a mark – and this one will take some beating.

Business of Endurance Podcast

When I first launched the podcast, there were a handful of guests I quietly hoped to interview one day. Chrissie Wellington was right at the top of that list – perhaps even the top spot. Four-time Ironman World Champion. Undefeated in 13 Ironman races. But those stats barely scratch the surface.

Chrissie’s story will stop you in your tracks. From working in international development in Nepal to utterly dominating the sport of Ironman, and doing so after turning pro at 30, her journey is a masterclass in late blooming, resilience, and self-belief. We cover everything from racing through pain and healing from an eating disorder to using intuition as a competitive edge and redefining success post-sport. If you want a conversation that blends performance with purpose, this is the one. One of the best we’ve had. Listen to it here.

What I’ve Been Reading

What happens when you want more than the flock is willing to give? That’s the central question in this poetic little classic about a seagull who dreams of perfecting flight rather than simply finding food.

At first glance, Jonathan Livingston Seagull is a fable about a bird. But it’s really about every one of us who’s dared to seek something more – more meaning, more mastery, more personal truth – even if it means being misunderstood, doubted or cast out. The dreamy illustrations are a gentle companion to a story that touches on performance, belonging and transcendence.

It’s short, strange and, at times, surprisingly moving. And if you’re at a point where you’re questioning the norm or redefining what success means to you, this one will land.

TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting
Who gets to build the future? In this thought-provoking talk, Yes, You Can Be An Entrepreneur Too, Saamra Mekuria-Grillo breaks down the stereotypes that surround entrepreneurship and challenges the notion of who “looks like” a founder.

Her message is clear: entrepreneurship shouldn’t be reserved for hoodie-wearing tech bros or Silicon Valley insiders. With the right support, belief, and environment, anyone can create something meaningful. It’s a reminder that innovation doesn’t have a dress code – and that expanding access to opportunity is one of the most powerful levers for change.

What I’ve Been Watching

I almost didn’t include this. When Elon talks SpaceX, Tesla and engineering, it’s mind-blowing – a glimpse into the thinking of a once-in-a-generation innovator. But once the conversation veers into politics, it’s more uncomfortable. Not because I disagree with everything, but because some of it is genuinely difficult to digest. And maybe that’s exactly why it’s worth watching.

It’s easy to consume content that aligns with our worldview. But what about the stuff that doesn’t? That makes you question the source, the system, or even yourself? Whether you love or loathe Elon (or Rogan), there’s no doubt this interview is a challenge – one that might leave you more informed, more confused, or both. Watch it here.

Tech I’ve Found Useful

We’ve tested a lot of CRM tools over the years but GoHighLevel may just be the most complete back-office marketing platform we’ve found. CRM, email marketing, automation, lead tracking, reputation management – it’s all baked in.

If you’re building a business and want to simplify your stack without sacrificing functionality, it’s worth a serious look. An all-in-one platform that doesn’t feel like a compromise.

The Trusted Team
What do Chrissie Wellington, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and even Elon Musk all have in common? They each dared to challenge convention, push beyond expectations, and seek something higher.

That’s the spirit that runs through The Business of Endurance – my new book which draws on insights from over 150 interviews with elite athletes, coaches, and adventurers to uncover what endurance teaches us about performance, mindset, and leadership.

From Olympic triumphs to record-breaking expeditions, the stories inside are as much about resilience and values as they are about podiums. If you haven’t already picked it up, you can grab a copy here.

And if you have read it and found it useful, a quick Amazon review goes a long way – thank you in advance.

Some conversations stay with you. This week’s episode with Chrissie reminded me why I started this podcast – and why I wrote the book in the first place. It’s not about finishing lines. It’s about who we become in the process of trying to reach them. Keep striving. Keep evolving. And don’t forget – sometimes, the second version is even better than the first. Until next time.
