Let the countdown to Season 9 begin.

What I’ve Been Reading

It’s rare to find a book that’s equal parts hilarious, touching, and loaded with insight – but then again, Tim Minchin has never fit into tidy boxes. He’s a comedian who writes orchestral scores. A poet who delivers punchlines. A singer-songwriter who makes you question life in between laughs. You Don’t Have to Have a Dream brings together some of his best thoughts and speeches, reminding us that living a creative and meaningful life doesn’t require a step-by-step master plan.

What it does require is knowing yourself. Which got me thinking: we talk about business USPs all the time – but what are your personal “3 Uniques”? The three things you do, or the three ways you see the world, that make your approach unlike anyone else’s? It’s worth reflecting on.

TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting

David JP Phillips has spent 7 years studying 5000 speakers, amateurs and professionals in order for the first time in history to detail every single skill a communicator from stage or in a presentation uses in order to deliver their message. This TEDx talk, The 110 techniques of communication and public speaking, gives you the very most important ones to bring with you to your next presentation or even everyday communication!

Podcast I’ve Been Listening To

This Diary Of A CEO conversation digs into Michelle Obama’s upbringing – and it’s less about glamour, more about grit. Raised on the South Side of Chicago in a tight-knit family with little money but enormous integrity, she shares how her parents instilled discipline, empathy, and resilience in an environment where racial tension and inequality were constant.

What’s striking is the deep sense of purpose and steadiness that came from a home that refused to let external limits define internal values. There’s something to be said for that kind of clarity – especially when you’re trying to build something that lasts.

What I’ve Been Watching

The Six Triple Eight tells the incredible story of the only all-Black, all-female battalion to serve overseas during World War II. Faced with 17 million pieces of backlogged mail and the weight of racial and gender discrimination, they brought relentless focus to a monumental task: to ensure no letter from home went unread by a soldier on the front.

It’s a powerful reminder that innovation doesn’t always look like tech or transformation – it’s often simply about tackling a mission no one else is willing to take on, and doing it with clarity, intent, and grit. Set a specific goal. Solve the problem. That’s innovation.

Quote of the Week

“Just try new things. Don’t be afraid. Step out of your comfort zones and soar.”

– Michelle Obama

Tech I’ve Found Interesting:

I’ve long believed that the inbox is the biggest silent killer of productivity (and peace). So I decided to do something about it. Without a single line of code written by me, I built a piece of software that now helps manage my inbox using nothing but plain English instructions on Replit. Seriously.

What used to drain time and attention now works in the background. If you’ve got an operational bottleneck, a tech irritation, or even just a repetitive task that makes you sigh every time it lands on your desk, it’s worth exploring what Replit could do for you. You might be surprised by how far “just describing the problem” can take you these days.

The Trusted Team

Reading Minchin’s call to lean into your unique blend of talents… watching the focused mission of the 6888 battalion… listening to Michelle Obama speak on resilience… and even using AI to solve personal bottlenecks – each thread this week speaks to something bigger: Clarity of purpose, and action aligned with it.

That’s what coaching at The Trusted Team is really about. Helping you get clear on what matters most, remove the clutter (mental and operational), and move forward with momentum and meaning.

If that resonates, I’m offering a limited number of one-on-one coaching calls exclusively for Friday Footnotes readers. No charge, no pressure – just a real conversation about where you are and where you want to go. If you’d like to book one, simply click here to reserve your slot. Let’s make space for what matters.

That’s it for this week.
As the days get longer, you’ve got more space – mentally and literally – to try new things, refine your edge, or start that idea that’s been nudging you for weeks. Use it well.
