August is nearly behind us, and with September on the horizon there’s that familiar back-to-school energy in the air. For many, this is the true reset point of the year – the summer reflections give way to renewed goals, sharper focus, and a sense of what’s possible in the months ahead.

What’s one thing you’ll commit to sharpening before 2025 closes out?

Business of Endurance Podcast

Having caught up with Crista Cullen this week, it reminded me what an excellent interview and episode of the podcast it was. So, as we pause between seasons 9 & 10, it’s a great opportunity go back and check out this episode if you missed it the first time around.

Crista Cullen won Gold and Bronze medals in three Olympic appearances with a total of 197 international caps and 3 as a World All-Star. Having grown up in rural Kenya, Crista spent her teenage years boarding at Oakham School and over the next decade she progressed through the ranks of elite hockey, that included the incredible London 2012 and scoring the crucial goal in the final of Rio 2016 to win gold.

She now spends her time helping the corporate world and growing her own charity Tofauti, to help support African wildlife and communities. In this fascinating interview, Sid and I got the opportunity to chat to Crista about the power of the team, finding a sense of belonging through sport, and creating a purpose beyond sport.

What I’ve Been Reading

Sir Chris Hoy knows better than most how quickly life can change. In elite sport, the difference between triumph and failure is often measured in milliseconds – a space he mastered across his glittering cycling career.

But last year, Chris faced a margin far starker than any finish line. What began as an ache in his shoulder turned out to be Stage 4 cancer, a diagnosis that means he will be living with the disease for the rest of his life.

In All That Matters, he reflects with honesty and courage on this new chapter. With his wife Sarra and their children beside him, he shares how he draws strength from past battles, how he reframes adversity, and why choosing to focus on the moments that truly matter is the only way forward.

This is not a story of medals or records, but of resilience, perspective, and love. It’s a reminder that while we can’t control what life throws at us, we can choose how we respond.

TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting

With SpaceX’s successful launch this week, it feels timely to revisit Elon Musk’s wide-ranging TED conversation with Chris Anderson. From reusable rockets to mass-market electric cars, it’s a window into how one individual thinks in systems that most of us can barely imagine.

What stands out isn’t just the audacity of his vision but the calm insistence on solving problems that seem impossible – until they’re not. It’s a reminder that innovation is rarely about chasing trends; it’s about tackling problems that matter, even when others scoff.

What I’ve Been Watching

Prompted by Dr Stacy Sims’ conversation on The Business of Endurance podcast (watch out for this in Season 10), whilst on a flight this summer I watched The Substance – and it left me both fascinated and unsettled.

The film starts with a seductive premise: what if there were a product that could give you a better version of yourself? More capable, more attractive, more you than you’ve ever been. It’s a chilling exploration of the allure of transformation, and how easily it can turn toxic.

It pushes you to ask: if offered the chance to be “better,” would you take it? And at what cost? But be warned, it turns into a very dark film by the end!

Quote Of The Week

“Our obsession with becoming a better version of ourselves can blind us to the value of who we already are.” – Inspired by The Substance

Tech I’ve Found Useful

Sometimes the biggest hurdle in communicating ideas isn’t the idea itself – it’s the clarity of the presentation. Napkin.ai takes text and turns it into simple, sharp infographics that make complex information easy to grasp and share.

Whether you’re explaining a business model, coaching a client, or refining your own strategy, this tool strips away the clutter and gets to the heart of the message. Think of it as taking the fog out of your thinking.

The Trusted Team

Momentum is a curious thing. Chris Hoy built it with marginal gains, Elon Musk harnesses it through visionary problem-solving, and even The Substance reminds us of what happens when the pursuit of “better” tips too far. But in business, momentum often stalls because the founder is the bottleneck.

That’s why we created The Freedom Framework: Building a Business You Can Scale or Sell webinar. It’s about breaking that dependence – moving from a business that leans entirely on you, to one that grows, runs, and thrives without you.

We’ll cover The Freedom Framework, case studies of businesses that went from stuck to sold in 18 months, and practical steps to build recurring revenue, automate marketing, and design with the end in mind.

It’s free, live, and interactive.
