The final weeks of summer often feel like borrowed time – late sunsets, warm evenings, and the illusion that everything can slow down just a little. But September has its own energy. A reset button of sorts. So, here’s the question: What will you do with this fresh momentum?
Business of Endurance Podcast
Last week Tom Evans did the unbelievable and won the UTMB. Imagine running an 170km (106-mile) ultramarathon with 10,000m (32,000ft) of elevation gain that circles Mont Blanc, traversing France, Italy, and Switzerland, and concluding in Chamonix, all in a little over 19 hours.
Known as the “Olympics of trail running,” that’s an average pace of 6:42/km through snow, up mountains and across trails; just incredible. It reminded me to go back and listen to the episode featuring Tom, while we wait for Season 10 to surface.
A former British Army Captain, he first made his mark on the ultrarunning world in 2017, when he came third in the 251km desert ultra-Marathon des Sables. Despite entering on the back of a bet with a friend, his third-place finish was the best result any European had ever achieved in the history of the race.
Claire and I got to chat to him about how his time in the army has helped him plan and execute races so effectively, how he focuses on tracking down the marginal gains and what data he does and doesn’t find valuable in recovering from these monumental 100 mile runs. Listen to the episode here.
What I’ve Been Reading
This is not a sci-fi future. It’s now. Co-founder of DeepMind, Mustafa Suleyman, delivers a wake-up call with The Coming Wave. AI isn’t coming – it’s here.
Suleyman shows how AI, synthetic biology, quantum computing, and beyond will soon define not only how we work and live, but also how global power is distributed. There’s optimism – technologies that can solve some of humanity’s biggest problems – but also deep concern. Will governments move fast enough to manage these tools, or will we drift into crisis by default?
This is one of those rare books that simultaneously informs and unsettles, offering insight into a future you’ll be better off understanding, sooner rather than later.
TED Talk I’ve Found Interesting
Sal Khan’s TED talk, Let’s Use Video To Reinvent Education, is more than an origin story of Khan Academy. It’s a masterclass in rethinking how we learn. His simple but radical idea – flipping the classroom so students watch lessons at home and use class time for discussion and support – has the potential to reshape more than school timetables.
It’s a reminder that learning should be a personalised, adaptive experience. And whether you’re teaching your team, leading clients through a process, or learning something new yourself, the takeaway is clear: information isn’t enough – engagement and understanding are the keys to long-term growth.
What I’ve Been Watching
Before the icon, there was the unknown. Set in 1961 New York, A Complete Unknown follows a 19-year-old Bob Dylan as he steps into the heartbeat of Greenwich Village and onto the world stage.
What makes this watch so compelling isn’t just the music – it’s the creative momentum. You witness the tension between raw talent and relentless self-belief. It’s the story of someone crafting identity through experimentation, courage, and a refusal to conform.
A timely reminder that reinvention isn’t just for musicians – it’s for anyone with the courage to back themselves.

Tech I’ve Found Useful
Not every moment needs to be pixel-perfect, but when it does, AI is here to help. Fotor’s AI Photo Enhancer does exactly what it says on the tin – cleans up your images, boosts clarity, and makes colours pop with zero effort.
Whether it’s professional headshots, content for your business, or photos from a recent race or event, this tool takes the guesswork out of editing. A single click, and your images are instantly ready for whatever platform they’re destined for.
The Trusted Team
You’ve read about the rising wave of AI. You’ve watched how a young Dylan redefined music. You’ve seen how education can be flipped on its head – and even your photos can now be upgraded by a single click.
But here’s a question: in a world where everything is changing, is your business still relying on the same tired tactics to find clients?
The Niche to Network workshop is for those ready to stop chasing and start attracting. Through frameworks like The Niche Clarity System and The Mutual Value Creation Model, you’ll learn how to identify the businesses already working with your ideal clients – and how to partner with them for mutual benefit.
This isn’t about handing out business cards or working the room. It’s about building a network that works for you.
It’s free. It’s practical. And it could be the smartest half-day you spend this year.

Tomorrow I will be embarking on the next leg of ‘My Longest Triathlon’ adventure; I’ll be swimming the 11 miles of Lake Windemere. This is 4 times longer than any swim I’d done before I signed up, and still way more than double anything I’ve done to date, so I’ve no idea whether I can swim that far; but there is only one way to find out.
After all, its when we push to the point of failure that we find out where our true limits lie. If you’d like to see whether I get to the end, follow me on Strava . If you’d like to sponsor me and help me raise much needed cash for research against the terrible Motor Neurone Disease, please do so here.
So here we are – in the season of second winds. The final stretch of the year begins now, and with it comes the opportunity to realign, reimagine, and regenerate. Whether it’s using tech more intelligently, learning with purpose, or showing up more fully in your work and your life – this is the time to do it. What will your September story be?
Until next time, keep pushing those boundaries!
